Do people still blog?

The day is Sunday April 4. The year is 2021.

“Blogging” is a thing of the past. With IG lives and Tik Toks in its place. But alas, here I am. BLOGGING. I heard the call yesterday morning. I’ve heard the call a few times over the year.

I enjoy writing. People enjoy reading my writing (hi thank u ily). It’s been a minute since I’ve written a blog.

It’s been a whiiiiiile since I’ve considered myself a “blogger.”

It was 2013 when I began blogging, back when Tumblr was still a thing. By 2014 I was beginning to learn the ins and outs of blogging, attending blogger events and the like.

Truthfully speaking, I wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for blogging. I wouldn’t be who I am today if it weren’t for blogging. For blogging is where I first began expressing my thoughts around healthy living, shifting from restrictive eating to moderation, the importance of mental health, self love, and so on and so on.

Blogging was the seed which birthed Fit University, which led me to every other component of my life, connected me with so many people, and provided me with opportunities I never would have even imagined. So damn! A moment of gratitude for blogging. 🙌🙏

Blogging was such a thing though, back in the day!! You had your favorite bloggers. Your food bloggers, fashion bloggers, fitness bloggers, travel bloggers... have influencers replaced bloggers? Were bloggers the original influencer? Do people still even blog??? I know they vlog but do they blog??? They must! I’ve just personally been out of the loop.

In 2013, I was co-oping at Reebok’s headquarters in Canton, Massachusetts. The Co-op Program is run by Northeastern (my alma mater), where you take 6 months off of school and work full time at a company. I was working in brand communication for Reebok’s Walking + Studio department. I was 20 years old, deep in the throws of fitness and my own blog about it, and was ECSTATIC when I got the job. The best part was being able to workout in the middle of the workday everyday. I remember being tasked with the job of finding the best mommy bloggers to wear our shoes and blog about them.

Did you know mommy bloggers were the original bloggers?? Of course they were… leave it to the Creatrix’s of life to be the original bloggers. Shout out to all the mama’s out there - and a special shout to my soul sister Garrett who is due to deliver life to this Earth any minute now!!

I digress. It’s been a minute since I’ve blogged but I’m back! Here I am. BLOGGING. Blogging about blogging.

It’s one of those moments where now the word blogging is beginning to sound weird.

Today, on this Sunday morning, I write to you from my bed in my mom’s house in Delray Beach, FL. The time is nearly 11am. I have officially been in Florida for two months now - a move that somewhat snuck up on me unexpectedly after nearly 9 years in New England. It’s been a lot of things but I’ll sum it up for now by copying a text I just sent to someone who asked how’s everything?

Everything is perfect. I moved back down here officially in February …the sun and family have been a gift to be with.

It doesn’t always feel perfect but when I pause, breathe, and zoom out, it is. This is exactly where I’m meant to be. I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t.

I’ll leave you for now with that and below, some photos of time + little nuggets to digest.

Wishing you a Sunday that is nourishing. A day to rest. Perhaps do nothing, even if for an hour. What could grow from nothing is infinite. What manifests from nothing is everything.

Until next time, Sarah Joy Gaines!
